that's what I've been hoping as I didn't want to endure two recovery processes.
Thanks for the responses chief.

No problem,
make sure they get a GOOD MRI of your shoulder before they cut on you.

Labrial tears are naty injuries!!! I know from experience. I had this same injury, thought I could get away without surgery, and actually did for a short while, but what happens or did happen was the injury traveled!!! Causing more injurys traveling down my body all caused from my original injury a SLAP Tear of the superior labrum. A typical pitching injury from over extenting the should girdel.
Well I now sport 4 pins in my shoulder and the majority of the rotator cuff had to be shaved away also. After many mos of therapy I am finally 100% and able to compete again.
But am injured again, but thats another story!! LOL
I would get it fixed, don't do like I did!! It took twice as long as if I would if I just would have had the surgery to start with!!! Alot of waisted time!!!

Stay STrong~~~!!!!

I've had a SLAP repair.

It's a comman rugby injury, I done mine during repeated negatives on bench press - so my consultant says.

I didn't need a screw, that sounds a bit over the top as it's only a small injury.

SLAP tear leaves your shoulder feeling loose and it can clunck about.
Mines now achey but I have 90% range back.
I sufer most external rotation, so over head press's are weak as p!ss.

I spent about 2-3 week in a compression sling with some anti-inflamatories.

I think the SLAP cause over compensation of my other muscles in the time it went un-diagnosed so I get a really tight left trap and sore infrasupnatus... these muscles were all trying to compensate for lack of full shoulder stability.

If you need to read up on this, my consultant/surgeon is the best in the UK and his site has lots of animations and even some sugery videos.
Take a look, he's called Mr Funk (top name LOL) and here's a link to his site... I send you right to the SLAP part but it covers most shoulder probs...

the site seems to be running really slow

The micro-screw is a "newer" addition. It anchors the kevlar suters and greatly reduces the chance of "tearing" or damaging the repair area the first month or so post op by anchoring the sutures. It dissolves after a few months and none the worse. I had surgery 1/17/07 and was back to hitting full contact (minor league football) 5/1/07. Still tender, but MUCH better than when I last played in October. Full extension on bull rush and can take a hit on it full speed by a fullback. LOTS of ice post w/o though due to tendonitus!

whats your stength like?
whats stability like?
whats your range of motion like?

just interested, not for any other reason.

interesting about the screw... mine had partly tried to repair itself so needed a debride 1st but they never mentioned a screw but if it disolves then it doesn't sond over the top like I thought before.

I had to have 4 pins in mine because it was torn completely!! A nasty injury!! After rehapping I regained 100% flexabilty and ROM back, My strength is about 98% and keeps improving. If I don't warm up properly before loading it totally, flexion is alittle painful and overhead pressing is also.
Its a 1000 times better than it was injured though!!!

I tore mine for the second time. Had it fixed like 15 years ago. Also had my left shoulder's acromium shaved to help impingement. Now have torn tendons in both and a torn right labrum from a fall at work. Fighting workmans comp ins for a year now and am really hating life! Hoping to get approval for the labrum issue asap and then have to have the other shoulders tendon fixed. I have not missed any gym time but am really limited. Newer proceedures are so much better than the old fixes though....

Have any of you tried ART or Graston techniques. They are soft tissue management programs that allow the body to heal properly allowing for normal range of motion which decreases tendonitis flare ups.

Just a thought.

I had surgury almost 4 weeks ago for a Torn Sup Labrum and a 100% RC tear along with detached Bicep and some impingement issues.

The surgury is cake for the mosy part but the down time is long. Since I am an avid powerlifter, he chose to imobilize the arm and shoulder for 8 weeks so that it would scar up and in a few weeks they will start breaking up the scar tissue. I am out of heavy weight training for 16 weeks and can start mod training at 12 weeks using this shoulder. He told me at some point I disloacted this shoulder and it ripped my labrum wide open, I saw the pictures of it and it was pretty wide open looking. I don't know if I got a screw in the labrum but did get 2 achors in the bicep.

be safe

FYI adequan won't work on your labrum. I am a huge fan of the product, but have tried it on my friends when they had the same type of injurie. They never really noticed much of a difference. There are chondrocytes in the C.T. that makes up the labrum, so by theory adequan should work, but how long would it take? Good luck bro, I know that adequan would be great for the recovery post-surgery.

You name it I have tried it or still do it! One of my closest friends is an ART practitioner. She works on professional atheletes using ART. I have done prolo-therapy, etc also... When things are torn, tey gotta be fixed.
