Hey Bros. This is my first post. I have been looking at this board for a while now, and you all have been a big help with all the info you put out. The Vip Board is THE BEST. Thanks.

I have been reading that DEXTROSE is the best post-workout carb, but I don't know anyone who actually uses it. I have a couple of bros who are amateurs, and they all eat stuff like bananas, white potatoes, white bread, and apple juice with their post-workout shake. I was wondering what everyone here uses. I am thinking about getting some DEXTROSE, but not sure. Any help would really be appreciated.

There's a lot of science supporting the use dextrose along with protein PWO. I believe a 3:1 ratio of carbs/protein has been shown to be optimal in some studies.

There are some other studies showing that the GI of carbs really isn't important and that lower GI carbs like oatmeal are just as good as dextrose.

Personally I take oatmeal with whey PWO. Whey protein by itself also spikes insulin levels.

If you're willing, read a book called Nutrient Timing. It has these points and more. I'm about to apply what I learned right now!

is it true that the insulin spike associated with sugar post workout , will help shuttle nutrients to muscles quickly.

Yes, and muscles after a W/O are more responsive to uptake of nutrients .

Yes. That can lead to glycogen overcompensation, where your muscle absorbs more nutrients than it is able to at any other time. That is a very anabolic thing to do.

TAKING ANY SORT OF FAT WITH A MEAL DESIGNED TO STIMULATE INSULIN RELEASE AND RESPONSE, IS IGNORANT.

INSULIN IS A STORAGE HORMONE, IT WILL INCREASE STORAGE OF WHATEVER YOU ARE EATING, AS IF THAT WERE NOT ENOUGH, AFTER A WORKOUT, THE WHOLE REASON YOU ARE EATING WHEY PROTEIN IS BECAUSE ITS FAST ACTING, EATING FIBER AND FATS ALONG WITH YOUR WHEY PROTEIN MAKES IT JUST LIKE ANY OTHER FOOD AT THAT POINT, IN THAT ITS NO LONGER FAST ACTING.

THE PURPOSE OF POST WORKOUT LIQUID NUTRITION IS TO MAXIMIZE THE ABSORPTION AND INSULIN RESPONSE, FAT SLOWS DIGESTION, AND BLUNTS INSULIN RESPONSE, AS WELL AS FIBER.

RE-THINK YOUR POST WORKOUT MEAL, IF YOU ARE EATING FAT IN IT, THATS NOT VERY SMART.

INSULIN + FAT = BODYFAT

WHETHER ITS TRANS AFTTY ACIDS OR OMEGA 3/6/9 IN THE PRESENCE OF HIGH INSULIN ITS GOING OT BE STORED.

NOT TO MENTION DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF INGESTING WHEY AND OTHER FAST CARBS, BY SLOWING GLYCEMIC LOAD.

I absolutely abhor these all-caps posts. They are an eyesore and if you want to make yourself less interesting to read and threads you participate in more difficult to follow, you are succeeding.

But good post anyways.
