Can heavy use of thermogenics (ephedrine + caffein) cause burn out of the adrenal glands? What are the symptoms and how long does it take to recover? Thanks

It would take alot- you would have to be under a lot of stress as well.
Some newer fat burners have added phosphitidyl serine and other anti cortisol sups to try to curb the effect of the stress hormone release from thermogenics. Or you can simply supplement on the side.

Good question. I have burnt out my adrenals. You get to feel like utter shit, lethargy is an understatement and sometimes you will fall asleep while doing stuff. It's awful.

Of course it took massive doses of caffeine and LOTS of ephedrine (up to 100mg ED for months on end) and 10 years in the stock market to get me there.

I don't know what it would take for others to join me in the no-adrenals land, but please don't.

I haven't recovered from it. It came with a burnout and also hypogonadism. All at the same time. The thing is, burnt out adrenals still respond somewhat to massive doses of caffeine, which still increases the problem. But they "give out" after the initial response, giving you a nice CRASH a 3-4 hours after your massive caffeine intake.

I have not recovered yet, as a matter of fact I am still in the process of weaning myself off the coffee. Stopping cold turkey makes me SICK as a dog: 3 days of intense migraines and puking my guts out, followed by 4 days of zombie state... So this time I am doing it slowly. All my research about ways to make the adrenals good again leads to one thing: REST them. No stress, no stims... Even psyching up at the gym prior to a set tires burnt adrenals... sad.gif

WOW- damn sorry to hear that Grunt. After 2 long diets plenty of thermos, clen, Low Carbs, and lots of stress from my own business- I decided to take a long layoff from stims- at first it sucked- then little by little I noticed I had better and better workouts- I definitley advoctae giving stims a long break during the year.
Hope your road to recovery is a short one bro.

Like you described I had very similar symptoms. I would take large doses and after a month or two I started getting intense lethargy massive crashes. It has been a while since, but I still felt crappy for month after. Now its much better but I get tired if I take ephedrine or the like. Hope you recuperate from it, stay safe.
