Well my doc found a blockage in the front of my heart during a nuclear stress test this morning. I have to fly out to Seattle so I can get an angioplasty and maybe a stint done. Have any of you guys had either of these. If you do feel free to chime in with your experience. Thanks

I got four stents put in last april. Blockages were 80% or more. 4 weeks later i was back training. Also cut out alot of the red meat but other than that my situation was bad genes. If i can help you in anyway LMK. If you can get past the why did this happen to me and all that s**t youll be good to go. I have lived a clean lifestyle and been bodybuilding for 12 years and it still got me, nothing you can do but try to eat cleaner and do cardio and hope for the best. Good luck

42 and have been athletic most of my life. Been in and out of powerllifting for the past twenty years. Let myself get out of shape when I retired from the army three years ago and have been actively getting back into shape the last 6 months. This was a big suprise to me because I've lost 34lbs in the last three months!! Started having chest pains on the treadmill and was like WTF?

Have not had it done before but we do several of these a week at the hospital where I work. It is a fairly simple procedure that they have down to a fine art these days. They begin by inserting a small catheter(or hollow sheath) into the femoral arterty and vein in the groin area of the leg. Then they insert a long wire through this catheter. They thread this wire up to the heart where the blockage occurs. They will start with the angioplasty. On the tip of this wire is a small balloon. They will insert the catheter to the blockage then inflate the balloon. This will compress the fatty matter that is causing the blockage and stretch the artery open to increase blood flow to the heart. The stent is a small mesh tube. It kind of looks like the spring that you find inside an ink pin when you take it apart. They insert a wire with a balloon with this stent over the balloon. When they get to where the blockage is they inflate the balloon. The stent expands with the inflation. When the balloon is deflated the stent stays in place to keep the artery open.
It shouldn't take more than 2 hours. You may have to stay the night but many times patients get to go home that afternoon. Check out this site. It will answer a lot of questions.

after you have it done, you will have to take it easy for 2 to 3 weeks. Start eating cleaner and get your heart checked every 4 to 6 months. Also, cholesterol and other blood work will only help you.

Hey Dl600 - I had a triple bypass done in 2001. It caught me completely off guard. I went in for a stress test on Friday as part of a yearly physical and had my surgery Saturday morning. The blockages were :1 was 100%, one was 95%, and one was 90%. I am 55 now, been back in the gym since 3 months after the surgery.
I am stronger and in better shape now than any time in my life! I am entering my first ever bodybuilding comp on July 14 of this year. I am currently at 6'0", #216, and 6% bf.at 5 1/2 weeks out
The whole point to my post is to let you know that this surgery is only a minor setback. You can make major changes in your body after recovery. Keep your chin up and don't be afraid after the surgery. Let your doc know what you want to do. When he gives you the green light, tear it up!!
Best of luck!!
