Three weeks ago I was given ten days of amoxicillan for this infection I have developed on the inside front part of both nostrils. The amoxicillan didn't do a thing, I have a compromised immune system thanks to COPD. What antibiotic will kill this crap? It is very painful to breath through my nose at this point.

your next port of call if amoxycillan has been ineffective would be amoxicillin-clavulanate (Augmentin). consider this a bit of a souped up version of what your already on. Add to that a corticosteroid nasal spray to help things along by reducing inflamation (will also help for the pain)
if your problem keeps going despite high-dose Augmentin combined with the kind of spray i mentioned then you may need minor surgery to drain the sinuses. when i say minor i mean you'll be in hospital for half a day. not a big deal if you have insurance
hope that helps

I have had problems my entire life with sinus infections and acutally had reconstructive surgery to help my problems. I however have found that through the years that it you get the mucus out the sinuses will heal themselves. Obviously with some help. I use saline spray, steam and afrin to help loosen and treat the sinuses during the healing phase. I recently had one and this did the trick. There is an article on the web about the over use of antibiotics for sinus problems and in the study nearly 90% could be treated the way I mentioned. After reading this article I have been treating mine this way with success. Just my .02.

I believe the first article is the one I am refering to. I also attached a second that outlines the saline solution use.

Last time I had a sinus infection that amoxicillin would stop, I was prescribed a zpak. It worked like a charm. I've had a couple since then in the past few years and was give the zpak from the start. It's always worked for me. It's a little harsh on my stomach to I always take acidophillis (sp?) when I'm on it and try to take the antibiotic at night, close to bed time that way I sleep through most of the unpleasant naseau I get. Good luck.

Silver, silver, silver!
It is absolutely non-toxic. Chemical antibiotics are toxic! Must remember that!

If the Amoxil didn't work then I wouldn't mess with the Augmentin. I would go strait to the Z-pack. Its inflamed so take some Ibuprofen. The saline nasal spray also help. If it is inside your nose, try putting some triple antibiotic ointment in you nasal passage. Apply it with a q-tip.

Okay, don't kill me,(although that may put me out of my nasal induced misery). How much does the silver cost?
