Hey all, a kid i know is an NCAA athlete and they are VERY regulated on what they are permited to take and not take. Pretty much the only supplement the kid is permitted is 100% whey protein.
Well he wants to build a little bit and wants to take some creatine, this is fobidden though so he asked me if i knew how long it would it stay in his system for a urine test? I have NO idea but thought someone on here might.

what is the detection time for Creatine and is there any way of getting it out of your system faster?

I hope this is a joke, canīt the kid take Creatine?
If itīs not a joke, then I strongly doubt that they will test for creatine since that is naturaly accuring in the food... and is actully used by some to hide a high water intake, when trying to dillute the urine ie. for a drug test. Since every one should have creatinine in there urine, lack of it is pointing on a try to dillute the urine.

no joke the kid isnt even allowed to drink redbull. they check for the creatine level in the test to make sure it's within a certain range so they can still tell. it's the same as if someone were running a test cycle, even though that's a substance that's naturally in ones system, and eleveted level would indicate cycling.

Any help guys?

Keep in mind here i'm talking about creatine monohydrate only, not phosphocreatine or creatine citrate. whats said below applies to the latter two forms of creatine, but there may be other ways of testing for these latter two beyond what's discussed for creatine monohydrate which i'm not familiar with...

The indicators of creatine monohydrate use for drug testing is blood serum creatine, blood serum creatinine and urine creatinine - creatinine is the waste product of the cyclization of creatine monohydrate.

Obviously, use of creatine monohydrate will be reflected in elevated plasma creatine levels. I cant see any way around this.

In terms of creatinine, creatine monohydrate that is unabsorbed into the cells undergoes nonenzymatic
intramolecular cyclization and dehydration to form creatinine. Creatinine in the blood serum is transported through the kidneys and then excreted in the urine. Since all unabsorbed creatine monohydrate is converted into creatinine, greater than insignificant amounts of unabsorbed creatine monohydrate will be reflected in an analysis of creatinine levels in urine. I cant see a way around this one either, unless one could precisely adjust the creatine dosing in such a way as to match the absorption capacity of the athlete - so that there is no excess creatine to be cyclized and therefore no increase in creatinine - but given this depends on so many factors i dont see how it could be easily done.

maximum blood serum levels of creatine are seen after about 1 hour and remains at that level for several hours (for a 5g dose).

some research shows elevated blood plasma creatine almost one month after discontinuation of dosing, however these levels are very marginally elevated - elevation of blood serum creatine over and above the normal reference range usually lasts little more than 1 week

good luck

he was going to take it when off season for his sport. How far out from the start of the testing season do you think he'd have to stop his intake? i've heard 30 days, i've heard a week. it just needs to be back down to normal levels by the start of his season.

aaaaaahhh just saw the part about a week being the elevation period. thanks for the info:)

Caffeine should expedite the process of creatine to creatinine- would get it out a bit faster...not sure how much- and caffeine can be out real quick.
NCAA has some ghey ass rules- they cant even use MuscleMilk...they have to use a special made formula by Cytosport called MuscleMilk Collegiate-
