Today was leg day and when I was on my 6 rep on deadlifts my lower back popped. I just got done taking x rays and won't know any info for up to a week. I won't be lifting weights for a bit. Should I cut back ony food or continue eating big? I've never hurt my back before and in a little scared. I hope its just a pulled muscle and not a slipped disk. I'm not sure I can even work out any other body part with a bar back. What would you guys and gals do in my position. The thing that Pisses me off the
Most is I went up in weight again in squats.

I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE BACK THING, TBH, THAT ASIDE IF YOU ARE INJURED TO THE POINT OF A LAY-OFF FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS, THEN YOU NEED TO DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT FIRST:

1. DO YOU WANT TO HOLD AS MUCH SIZE YOU CAN?

2. DO YOU WANT TO AVOID GAINING BODYFAT?

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DECIDE, BECAUSE THEY WILL REQUIRE TWO DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT APPROACHES.

YOU COULD KEEP YOUR FOOD INTAKE RELATIVELY HIGH, CUT CARBS SOME AND TRY AND KEEP MOST OF YOUR SIZE, OR...

...YOU COULD DECREASE CALORIES FROM OVERALL AND TRY AND LIMIT ANY BODYFAT GAIN THAT MAY SUBSEQUENTLY COME FROM BEING FAR LESS ACTIVE.

THERES SOMETHINGS YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION, SUCH AS HOW LONG IS YOUR ESTIMATED TIME OFF FROM TRAINING? DO YOU HAVE ALOT OF BODYFAT CURRENTLY? DO YOU TEND TO GAIN OR HOLD BODYFAT EASILY? WILL YOU BE DOING ANY SORT OF ACTIVITY OR PRETTY MUCH INACTIVE AS FAR AS ALL FORMS OF EXERCISE, ETC.

THESE ARE VARIABLES THAT WOULD NEED TO BE ADDRESSED TO MAKE THE MOST INFORMED DECISION.

If you want to maintain size and power i wouldnt stop eatting.Work around the injury....Do such lifts like leg presses and leg extentions and leg curls till you're able to put weight on that bar again.Sounds like you twiched the lower back..It could take 4 weeks to heal but meanwile as i said contuine to eat big and work around the injury....dw

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Do you guys know if an X ray will show a ruptured or slipped disk. I really hope I just pulled a muscle. I might need to get an mri if the X ray doesn't show enough.

Good stuff here IMO

Work around the injury, be creative without instigating further damage.

Do think doing bb and db curls put too much strain on the back? How about tricep movements, like push downs or over head extensions?

Take all the rest you need. Don't worry about the workouts for now. THink about getting better. I hope that the pain isn't too bad.

I'm on some pretty good drugs, but the bad things is it screws with my digestive system. It slows it down a lot. Because of this, I'm not taking many pain meds. I'd rather eat properly then feel bloated 24/7 if you know what I mean lol.

The only way to see what puts a strain on you're back is to try out a movment you wish to do...More then likely the best thing to do is stay away from heavy liftting till you heal.Stay away from movements such as bent over rows, squats, and any type of dead lift pulls..As far as tricept extentions you could do them wile sitting down.Another good blaster for tris would be close hand grip on the bench...They have many exercizes that you can do that doesnt invole the back...Just test the water....dw

One thing..take care of yourself and use your head. If it hurts...don't do it! Do exercises that are back supported. This way you don't place further strain on it.

Of course...as with DW and myself...powerlifters normally work through the pain! We're not always that bright when it comes to this!!!

If you are taking pain meds and lifting...DO NOT DO THIS. as you can cause yourself more injury.

For triceps...try rock n rolls. It really does work.

Take care and heal fast.

when it comes to health dont risk it
think about the future it wudnt be worth it
just lay off the weights for some time in general
stick to cardio for some time if you want to
unless you lift for a career stay off
ull thank yourself in the next couple of years

This weekend was kinda weird. Friday and saturday I felt the best I have ever felt I the last week. Then sunday hit and I was doing great until the afternoon when I was walking to my car I felt a sharp pain in my ass and down my leg. From the research I did and talking to family members I believe my sciatic nerve was giving my pain. Well it hurt the rest of the day and through the night. I had ice on it all after noon and night. I took some pain pills and a muscle relaxer before bed and I woke up this morning feeling good. The pain in my ass went away. I decided to go to the gym and left some weights. I worked out my chest pretty easy today on the smith rack making sure I didn't incorporate my back at all during the movements. I also worked my calves on seated calve raises. I did 40 pull ups very slow which I felt no negative impact from. It may have even helped loosen up the back. I'm going to try and work my arms later in the week. I'm trying to real creative on the movements to make sure my back is not effected by the movements.
