yah man im 43, ive had acid reflux since my mid-20's and after i finished the samples for it i thought "ah,its just heartburn". big mistake and now i pay for it almost daily and am in the middle of a bad one as i write this:feeling bloated yet hungry when its time to eat, cramps, bad sulfur smelling burps that smell like fucking rotten egg farts,as well a sulfur/tar farts(have any of you members had any sulfur-like belching problems like this??)and sometimes in the middle of the night ill be awakened by a rush of acid/bile shoot into my mouth so fast i have to swallow most of it until i make it to the sink and what i spit out makes me barf again, lol. the specialist who worked on me showed how the bile works its way back up as high as your throat and literally burns tissue away. i woke up and smelled the coffee 2 years ago when i woke up with a black mouth and said wtf and after wetting it it turned back to red. i was bleeding internally and spitting up fresh, crimson blood, and i was so nautious that i barfed into the sink ,filling it instantly with what looked like coffee grounds and all kinds of black matter, and red blood too. so my wife came home and took me to the emergency room and it turned out that i ruptured my esophogus badly and lost so much blood my hemo was below 6 and i was white even though i tan almost every day. i was in the hospital for 5 days with tubes down my nose and throat but the demerol/visteral,compazine shots every few hours made it much more joyous, lmao, but it would be easier to have been taking an acid neutralizer/inhibitor all along. the specialists have me on ranitidine/omeprazole/protonix/pepsid complete, which some block acid and some help repair ulcers and they most certainly do work. if i havent taken them in a couple days by accident i sure can tell. i tried apple vinegar ciders(all the best)and other homeopathic remedies for it to no avail. the reflux diet encourages low amounts of dairy products and isnt very bodybuilder friendly, however i cant give up my skim milk through-out the day since i was a kid. it feels like its coating your stomach walls but they say "no,no,no thats bad" about my milk/dairy which i think i must have but is to be limited. also, taking a good source of probiotics helps greatly of purging toxins from your whole body and helps to keep bad episodes away. thanx for all the info fellas and i appreciate your info!! here here for healthy digestive systems, lol ohmy.gif

Sorry to hear you're suffering this badly Minster. I have had it for sometime as well. At first thought it was an Hyatal (sp) Hernia...since then know it's GERD. I take Nexium which has been very helpful. Try and watch my diet as well as when I eat before bedtime. FOr me...when the bile comes up...I have to keep something sweets on hand to get that terrible taste out of my mouth. There are some nights that I wake so abruptly coughing and feeling that stuff come up I don't get back to sleep as I wish I could. It sucks.

Oh..one other thing you can try...elevate the head of your bed by 2 inches. Just add a 2x4 under each leg. That is usually enough to allow you to sleep at a reasonable incline and keep the GERD to a minimum.

Happy to hear that you are able to control this Minster...keep it up.

I too have had acid reflux since about my late 20's. The episodes throughout the day and night got more and more frequent as I got older. I have now been taking omeprazol for a few years now and haven't had any problems since. Although......before I went to the doc I also thought it was just heartburn so I would have a glass of milk and that helped me enough where I could go back to sleep. I wish I knew back then that the massive amounts of milk I was consuming everyday to comfort me was actually making the problem worse. All in all......my heart goes out to you Minster. It was bad enough going through what I went through but it doesn't touch what happened to you. Good luck with that.

Prevacid was sent from Heaven! I take one EOD. If I happen to run out I get Prilosec OTC. Works GREAT!

GOOD TOPIC, sad to see that many suffer from this.

Include me in the basket. My case is not severe but enough to really bother me at times, reason I eat before bed time.

I think one needs to concentrate on how we eat. I am pretty sure that the VINEGAR is a good treatment, however better yet is NOT MIXING FOOD GROUPS.

I am sure some of you have heard that MEATS should not be eaten with CARBS!

There is this healthy food intake system, this DOC told me of it years ago:

----------HEALTHY FOOD HABITS--------

No Animal Proteins with Carbs, but Animal Proteins with Veggies

Carbs with Veggies is OK.

Fruits should be eaten alone, same with Nuts.

Drink before meals, & wait to drink until 30min after meals.

There are some other things I do not recall, but this is the main info.

--------------------

Anyway this is of course hard to do.

peace

GMO starches such as flour trigger my acid reflux every freaking time.

Organics don't.

Weird huh?

I'm glad I read this. I'm going to look more into the milk issue, because I am guilty of drinking milk before bed to settle it down. It always worked, so I always did it.

Thanks guys,
Kawbiker

thanx superman22,any1,etc. yah i am really amazed at the dairy issue because like brotherman said milk feels good and as if it is coating the stomach. a new discovery of mine that cleared up those damn sulfur burps right away was when i tried "pepsid(sp??) complete" and old pepto bismal. does anyone else get sulfur-smelling burps?? i mean poower-burps that can light up a car or rooms in a house man, lol, and they taste bad when your mouth is closed at first to say the least. yah mike,i was really into that mixing of foods do's and dont's,something about how you should have and acidic environment with protein and less acid with carbs and fat generally could be mixed with both. i had a problem with with protein going over the 3-hour mark with that though but im going to be more conscious about mixing my foods, thanx for the reminder biggrin.gif
