Low back "tightness"

Any one have advice on how to relieve this....I don't abuse opiates any more and since my workouts jumped to the next level again....This is becomin a problem again...

Bro whenever I go above 280 + in bodyweight that shit kicks in- below that it goes away- not sure what to do about it when it hits me either- love to see some feedback here.

Stretching stretching and even more stretching, that usually will help it smile.gif

when you stretch, hold it there, take a deep breath, let it out and stretch even further until you can't go any further, that way you are stretching it to the max.

I have a good friend who is over 300lbs and swears by yoga for the stretching of his back and lower body. I have considered this myself. biggrin.gif

Hey Kruzzer

Good to see you here.

Yes, yoga is fantastic! I am a big yoga/pilates fan and it has worked wonders on my back. In would suspect that the tightness is due to the origin of the hamstrings originating in the low back.

Warm up with what they call in the yoga world as the downward dog position. Get on all fours; while keeping your hands in position on the ground/mat; sit back onto your calves while exhaling and keeping your hands in the first position. Hold the stretch. This will stretch the lats and lumbar.

Returning the full upright position on all fours, to "table top position" and keeping your core tight. Then arch your back like a cat on a fence. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds. Then return to the flat table top position.

Repeat the downward dog, table top and cats back several times.

Flip over with legs extended on the floor with your torso perpendicular to the floor. Have a towel, strong thera-band (dark grey), or long cord handy. Warp the band, towel or cord around your feet holding the two ends in your hands. Begin to slowly pull your torso forward while keeping your legs straight. In the beginning your range will probably be short but hold for 10-15 seconds. Keep repeating and hopefully increasing your range and being able to bring your head, neck and chest closer to your quads.

This will be a start. In addition, from this position you can roll back and have your body completely on the floor. Start by bringing up your right leg to a position in the attempt to bring the leg to perpendicular. You will want to use the cord, band or towel for this as well. Pull the leg up and hold for 10-15 seconds while your left leg is either bent and foot on floor or flat on the floor. Repeat with other leg. Make sure that you don't compensate by arching your back off the floor.

Try these to start out with. Remembering the goal isn't to master the stretch to a full 90 degrees with the first few attempts but over time this will improve the range thereby stretching the hamstring and hopefully help the tightness in your low back.

Cant remember where I read this but article said that it is mainly due to a large supply of testosterone receptors located in the trunk area. I would like to think this is correct because I only experience when I am mid to late cycle.
The stretching of the lower back and hamstrings will help immensely. Also remember to strengthen your abs and core muscles. If your low back muscles are getting stronger then you need to be working extra hard on your abs.

I need to get my wife and started on yoga and palaties. we both have bad backs. she is 5ft. 90 lbs and im 6ft 290 lbs. I figured this is something we could do together. can anyone recommend a site where I can buy a dvd for begineers and do it at home? thanks

Yoga is WONDERFUL for this!!! I have only done moderate yoga before, but I am looking into taking it steadily...I hear it works wonders biggrin.gif

There are so many out there. I would try just googling it and see what comes up for beginners. Taking a class may be fun also smile.gif
