Best way to break a bad habit is cold turkey IMO. Self discipline and will power. If its what you really want to do you'll do it.

Thats how I beat my addictions.

the cravings will be immense at times in the begining...Like most things, your body will adapt and you will not crave sugar anymore. Give it time and willpower.

I will teach you a little trick....get a small sealable jar and put something in it that smells horrible to you, (pickle juice and tobacco, eggs and vinegar) make sure there is some form of liquid in the jar, let it soak for a couple days sealed. When you get cravings for sugar open the jar and force yourself to smell it. It won't be long and you will not want sugar any more. Trust me it sounds rediculous but it works.

Where do you start........??Im surpized no one had the right answer...Where would anyone start and that is the BASICS...Without the basics you have nothing but a empty shell.AS far as habbits i would agree with KANE...cut cold turkey.Ive beaten many addictions and ive beaten them by SELF WILL POWER....Nothing good comes easy....As a matter of fact it comes very hard and if your serious about getting back to your roots of fitness you very well better prove that to yourself......Only you can make it happen.Start with the basics and contuine to strive to become what you want to be.......You better fight hard or you will fall dead on your face......I wish you luck...dw

Right on DW. Coming from another guy who has faced his addictions head on and come out on top I can tell you there is nothing more rewarding or more righteous than putting in the effort and exerting discipline and will power to overcome hurdles in your life.

Discipline is something underrated in this world anymore but a keystone to success in the iron pit and life in general.

YES BASICS! The way it is with sugar, is once your body starts getting it, you are instantly on the sugar train and your body wants more, you have to jump off.

You don't HAVE to quit cold turkey, but it will be faster that way. Try calorie counting for a while, count up all of the good things you eat, and whatever is left (according to however many calories you allow yourself each day) have a little bit of frozen yogurt, or something sweet.

I myself have 1/2 a cup of chocolate soy milk, or some fat free ice cream if I have a craving, and then that's it!

Chewing gum and eating raw veggies also helps.

Good luck!

I'd like to konw a little more about you Ms Oldlady.

Please tell us where you were in your training before the surgeries. And if you don't mind sharing...what kind of surgeries have you had done and why.

And some stats if you don't mind along with goals. As well as what lead you here to VIP.

All this is helpful in offering information to get you back on the right track. More info please!

Well being back and getting back on track is all that matters smile.gif Are you still recovering from surgery and that's why the cardio is light, etc, or are you just trying to ease back into it? Do you feel like you always need something sweet? What is your diet like? Because by changing the foods you are eating (example: eliminating ALL processed foods, etc...) you can train your body off of sugar in a very short amount of time...

No surgery....Light cardio because I was "easing" back in....cardio is at 30min a day...but hitting the nautilus equip. a little harder....no free weights yet...the natural peanut butter is the bomb.....no craving for sweets....I am "thinking"when I eat....no sugar...staying away from "white"....doing chicken, sweet potatoes, water, chai vanilla tea, protein bars....some unsweet applesauce...so far so good..... wink.gif
