Some studies show that it is best to injest vitamins and minerals on an empty stomach only.....I was wondering if anyone here knew why? Or if this is true?

There are no rules about the best time of day to take supplements. My advice is to take them when they agree with you most. Many people find taking pills of any kind as part of a morning routine makes it easier to remember, so taking them with breakfast is a popular option. Vitamins and mineral supplements can cause nausea, heartburn, and other gastric disturbances, especially when taken on an empty stomach. For best absorption and the least irritation to the stomach, I generally suggest taking your supplements with a meal containing fat. This is particularly important for the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D and E). Experiment with taking your supplements with lunch or dinner, if they cause you problems with breakfast.

Foods - or an empty stomach - can also interfere with absorption of some vitamins and mineral supplements. With calcium, for instance, you need enough stomach acid to assimilate it so you're better off taking it after you've eaten, because food in the stomach stimulates acid secretion. Tannins in tea can block absorption of iron, while vitamin C enhances iron absorption, as do fermented soy foods such as miso and the lactic acid in both yogurt and sauerkraut. Other foods that interfere with iron absorption include caffeinated beverages, eggs, milk and bran. (You shouldn't be taking iron supplements or a multivitamin/mineral containing iron unless you're a premenopausal woman with a heavy menstrual flow or your doctor has recommended an iron supplement because a test has shown that you're iron deficient). In addition to these foods, excess consumption of alcohol can interfere with absorption of several vitamins and mineral supplements.

If you're eating a healthy, balanced diet, however, you have no reason to worry about foods interfering with the absorption of your vitamins and mineral supplements.

I'D LIKE TO SEE THEM?

VITAMINS AND MINERALS NEED WHAT ARE REFFERED TO AS PROTEIN CHAPERONES TO BE ABSORBED IN THE BODY APPROPRIATELY, THE PROCES OF CHELATION ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY THIS, HOWEVER IMO, WHOLE FOOD IS BEST.

THINK ABOUT IT.

THE ONLY PLACE YOU GET VITS./MINS. IN NATURE IS FOOD/DRINK (FOODSTUFFS) SO EVERYTIME YOUR EATING YOUR INGESTING THESE TO VARYING DEGREES, THE BODY IS A BIOLOGICAL MACHINE THAT NEEDS TO PROTEIN CHAPERONES FOUND IN FOOD TO UTILIZE THE VITAMINS AND MINERALS.

TAKE VITAMINS E FOR EXAMPLE THERES 8 ISOMERS (4 TOCOPHEROLS AND 4 TOCOTRIENOLS) OF VITAMIN E (NOT JUST GOOD OLD TOCOPHEROL ACETATE) THAT ARE FOUND IN NATURE, AND THE BODY CANNOT DO SHIT WITHOUT ALL OF THEM.

VITAMIN C. IS ANOTHER, VITAMIN C IN NATURE IS NOT JUST ASCORBIC ACID, ITS A COMPLEX OF BIOFLAVANOIDS, HESPERIDIN, RUTIN, ETC.

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS/MINS. WITH A MEAL, ALL OF THEM.

MOST GOOD BRANDS WILL RECOMMEND THIS ANYWAYS.

Thanks guys!!! Great info! smile.gif

I prefer to take them on a full stomach, I feel better that way, I just wanted to be sure that it wasn't interfering with the absorbtion factor, but then again, whether with food or not, same amount in the body right?

And vit b-12 even with food barely gets into the system, best way for this one is or sublingual beter yet inject.

What's the best way to take vitamins?

Mayor Pharmaceutical Laboratories pioneered the introduction of Spray Vitamins over 19 years ago and continues to lead the world in research and development on spray technology for the buccal delivery of nutrients. Spray vitamins are ingested as liquids, sprayed directly into the mouth where the vitamins start to absorb directly across the buccal mucosa (the lining of the mouth) and swallowed.

But other than buccal delivery of vitamins

Vitamins taken oraly and absorption looking at
Vitamin E for example occurs naturally in eight different forms. The primary vitamin E on drugstore shelves is called tocopherol, or TCP. But another natural form of vitamin E surfacing as a potent neuroprotective agent in repeated Ohio State University Medical Center studies is tocotrienol, or TCT.

Since I Have nothin better else to do figured I'd look into this a bit and Like ThinkBig sujested taking vitamins is best with food, here's a nice bit of info on This type of vite E which appears to be the best form and how it is best absorbed.
These findings were published in the May issue of the journal Antioxidants & Redox Signaling.

Conventional wisdom has suggested that TCT, if eaten, cannot be carried to organs because the protein known as tocopherol transfer protein (TTP), which delivers TCP throughout the body, doesn't transport TCT very well. (a myth)

"Our results demonstrate that TCT is efficiently delivered to the bloodstream with out food despite the fact that the transfer protein has a lower affinity for TCT than it has for TCP," Sen said. Although Absorption of TCT is increased when the supplement is taken with fat-containing food, so the research participants took the study supplement with a high-fat (60 grams) meal to increase the efficiency of absorption.

Sen said the maximum TCT concentrations in the bloodstream of supplemented patients averaged concentrations between 12 and 30 times higher than that needed to completely prevent stroke-related neurodegeneration as determined by earlier research.

So yea take ur vitamins with a high fat food for best absorption.

They actually have a methylcyanocobalamin now- but we all now about methylation- my understanding was b-12 was less than 1% absorbed orally in the digestive tract sublingual and inj were the preffered forms.
