I read or heard somewhere that once you mix a protein shake (from powder form) that it must be consumed within 30 minutes or the proteins and vitamins and amino acids can start to become denatured, anyone else ever heard of this? Apparently the ones that are premixed have something done special to them so this does not happen. I couldn't find any info on this, though it sounds ridiculous to me I have it stuck in my head for some reason. Also I'm talking about mixing with water, not milk and storing it in the fridge.

What I am wanting to do is mix my morning shake at night so it's already to go in the morning when I first get up. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've herad similar things. However, I believe that if you are mixing it as late as possible the night before, and then having it in the early morning it should be fine, but shake it rather than blend it.

I've heard once that blending it is bad for the same reasons....anyone else know if this is true?

I don't believe it myself, because it's all the same ingredients there....

Read yrs ago if you blend the crap out of em you do something to it that breaks it down. but you can blend it in short bursts enough to just get it mixed up and not alter the intent of the nutrients.

I dunno about the pre mixing ahead

my only other comment about shakes is have one right before you go to bed also. eat/sleep/train - right?

I have one when i first get up, to stop the breakdown and one mid-day usually shortly after lunch (regular whey). I have one post workout (whey isolate). Then one at night before I got to bed (Casein/Whey blend) since casein takes up to 7 hours to absorb I am banking on my muscles feeding on it longer and further preventing breakdown, plus it allows for some protein to be available for that 2am natural GH spike.

4 shakes a day? Why not more food?

I eat 1 breakfast, 2 lunches and 2 dinners. The shakes are in between meals.

No matter what, I believe that the BEST protein i the stuff you get directly from meals, however, a boost is great in between if you really need it, I've stopped the shakes and have been getting the protein from food and have felt much better since smile.gif

I put down about 4 shakes a day usually...just because I really like them haha.

I've pre-made shakes before to take to the gym with me so I can slam one after I'm done working out.

I used to have Whey Sensations Chocolate Truffle, with 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of chocolate soy milk and I was SO HOOKED, best stuff ever, such an awesome chocolate shake, but I started feeling sick after about a year so I quit and now just stick to foods...but I miss it though!

strategically the speedy delivery of nutrients into the bloodstream post workout from a shake is hard to beat but I agree a combo of shakes supplemented along with good food both is key. I eat a ton of chicken and turkey but I also often have 3-4 shakes a day & always liked the convenience of them when really busy with kids and work etc. if I were more of a cook I suppose I would eat even more chicken and turkey and beef as well than I do. I cant always get the grams of protein I need in a day (250+) and keep the calories in a manageable range without overeating if I dont use shakes to increase the efficiency

I read an actual article and cannot find it.. It does begin to breakdown within the 30 minutes. Thats the smell you get... Leave it dry and add water when your ready.

Hey MissK, Went on hiatus for a while.. Had other things going on in my life so I dropped all my MOD postitions and just spent my time with the wife and kids. Once everything was back inline I came back to the boards and got my positions back and have been posting there. I was on so many boards I was running in circles.

Now I stick to the 3 boards I MOD on and try to pop in here and there... This board is a great board so I figure I would like to pop in and say hi a little more... A lot of good members here..

Well like I said, good to see you back. I know what you mean about too many boards and too little time. I have two boards now, I MOD over at VIPBB (you should take the time to check that one out, SERIOUSLY wicked awesome board) and this one....I LOVE this board...like you said, good solid people and a great place to hang out smile.gif
