Very interesting G-man. I have metal screwed in at C5,C6,C7 and a herniation at T12, L1, L2, so 100% success rate sounds very good.

Of course all my cases were relatively simple, no backs that were almost completely destroyed such as yours. I would not promise 100% for a case such as yours.

You have pain in the back for 3 months even after care has been going on and no further studies have been done? Has the pain gotten better? Worse? Both?

You need further imaging to rule out problems. There's not much meat here to chew on, but basically speculations. Its for your best interest that a definitive diagnosis is found.

Ive been dealing with a herniated disc(L5) for years now. Ive tried everything, from physical therapy, traction, shots, to accupuncture..Bottom line nothing works. Only thing that makes it tolerable is my pain meds. Doc suggested surgery, but I cant afford to be out 3 months. And even that isnt guaranteed..

My pain is probably the worst in the morning, but once I get moving around it seems to be tolerable, but then again, my pain meds are working..

I cant squat anymore, or do anykind of bent over movements with weights, or I pay the price the next day..

Grunt, I would like to hear more about how you can cure a herniated disc.. Im not doubting you, but I find it hard to believe this isnt public knowledge or isnt out there for us to try.. Never heard of anything curing a herniated disc, except for surgery.

The short answer is: soft tissue CAN regenerate. You just have to convince the disc to get back in its place, and then to heal. There is no magic, just good biomechanics, PT, endocrinology and Gruntness. As I posted before, it isn't hocus-pocus. It's just more uncommon to see discs healed because it is something that requires medical specialties to be bridged together in order to happen. What usually happens is that each specialist will give you his 'answer', whereas the solution lies OUTSIDE the borders of any medical specialty. So it never gets put into action.

Don't know if anyone posted about this yet, but the spot in your butt where one would inject gear is very close to where the sciatic nerve is located and sometimes the pressure from the oil or scar tissue from injecting can aggravate this.

I have a herniated disc from an accident and trust me...you would know for sure that you had one. It's been almost 8 year that I've been dealing with constant lower back pain, numbness in my toes, and back spasms.

Another thing you may have could be arthritis in your spine from working with too much weight and in bad form. Squats, seated rows, and dead lifts are notorious for causing this problem.

Same here.. Pain meds for 7 years have been the only thing to help...as much as I hate them as they are counter productive to building muscle. But I tried everything as well, and because nothing worked and surgery was the only option left, I decided pain meds were safer. Over 50% of all back operations fail and many people are in more pain after.

Just read this thread. Last month I was told that I have a herniated disk (C5-C6) in my neck after getting an MRI done. I was told there was nothing that could be done for it. Grunt, I'd be very interested in hearing what you have to say about healing a herniated disk. Please shoot me a PM if you don't want to openly discuss it on the board. Thanks.

Bad news brotha. Some traction might help the buldges but the degenerative disk will just probably get worse. Pain meds or surgery will prabably be your best options.

I can feel everybodys pain. I have a herniated disk in the lumbar that I have been dealing with for years. I can't squat anymore which kills me because I love it.
Then...
On April 3rd, I was rear ended while at work. I was initially diagnosed with a cervical sprain( whiplash) and sent back to work. 3.5 weeks later, I complained that it wasn't getting better. I got an MRI and turns out C5-6 herniated and the one below it is sticking out as well.
Doc prescribed injections but Im still waiting. Workers comp is slow.

good luck with the injections....50% shot they will help, I had it done and it did nothing except drain my bank account of the insurance deductible... Also...you will need at least 2 - 3 shots so don't expect any relief after the first. As I have asked family members who r MDs...there is still no help for fixing herniated discs and don't be fooled if someone says a few exercises will.. Surgery is all there is and that works 40% of the time, 30% have worse pain after and most people have the same pain. I'm waiting till there r some developments in dealing with this problem surgically and I'm willing to wait as long as it takes.

Decadog, at least I am not paying for it, so I don't care about the cost. I know that I do not want surgery, also why I didn't have surgery on my lower one.

Boy i feel everybodies pain. I ruptured my L5 S1, back in 7/2005, had the mri done, saw surgeon, right away, you need surgery, i said not until i loose my bowel functions, so i did the pt, chiro, all the good stuff, everything was going good, you know once in awhile it get out of whack, i learned how to pt myself, the streches, But in 12/2008 i was getting real bad muscle spasm, in the lower back, no pain down the leg. went back to pt, in 2weeks good as new, then at the end of April of 2009, doing deadlifts my right wrist strap snaps, jerk to the right herd and felt a pop in my lower back, but the pain i felt was in the hip, with pain and numbness down the right leg.
So ive been doing pt, and on fathers day i wake in tremendous pain, wife takes me in to the emergency room, same thing you need surgery, i say no, and they give me some cortizone steroid tabs to take, within a week im 95% better, pt is amazed, what a mistake with those tabs, there just a front,
On June 23, doing seated rows, felt and herd pop, this time the pain is nothing i have ever felt before,
I have extreme high pain threshold,
Some how i drive home, have to call 911, they take me in to the hospital, well it happened i lost bowel function, had to get the surgery, now the surgery isn't that bad, its called micro something, about 45 min operation, they go in and shave off the disc thats hitting the nerve root, 3-4 weeks to recover, im on week 1.5 and i feel great no pain, just sore where the incission is, now my problem wasn't the disc being ruptured, its that i had alot of chip bone, that was hitting the nerve root, and thats what you have to be careful of.
