Walking is great for you. Many many benefits!
Studies show that walking can:

Lower blood pressure
Reduce high cholesterol and improve blood lipid profile
Reduce body fat
Enhance mental well being
Increase bone density, helping to prevent osteoporosis
Reduce the risk of non insulin dependant diabetes
Help to control body weight
Help osteoarthritis
Help flexibility and co-ordination,reducing the risk of falls
The following is from a report on a walking initiative launched in Sonning Common, England in 1995-1996. It was provided by Peter Ashcroft, Walking for Health Co-ordinator, Countryside Agency, England.
Health Walks: Reported health benefits
About 10% reported decreased levels of illness
About 25% reported reduced their stress levels
About 60% reported higher stamina levels
About 55% reported higher energy levels.
The evaluation found over three-quarters of the participants reported positive impacts of Health Walks and significant health benefits.

i went to the doctor today to get some scripts and while i was there thought i'd get my BP checked, haven't had it checked in a couple months... and guess what... its the lowest its been in maybe 2 years! i now certainly think that the copious amounts of walking i've been doing past couple months has had something to do with that...
