It seems like everyone has their own idea about how to train and how often to train their abs. Of course, we all know different things work for different people. I'm one of those people that trains my abs x4 wkly. Unlike most people, I love working out my abs and feeling that burn. The more veins that come out in my stomach the more I want to train them. But it's also resulting in more muscular obliques...not a look I want. It's making me look like I have more of a boxy waist line. I intentionally don't work out my obliques for this reason. But recently I read that even using weights for abdominal crunches can cause this too. And I tend to alternate my ab days with non-weighted and weighted exercises.
So what's your take? How often? What do you do for how many sets? And do you think weighted abdominal exercises are necessary?
Your take on building perfect abs

un-necessary in my opinoin, although I do think that would give it a boost. But to stay away from the boxy waist line look, I would steer clear of them...
I train mine once a week to failure, however all of my exercises are compound movements and thus work the core.

I get to that point where they burn so bad and then it goes away. Then I know if I stop I'm going to get sick.
