I had the flu really bad last week. I decided to be a puss and wait until I was better to start working out again. In the past, I have tried to workout through it, but there's no energy. The workouts almost felt pointless. I was hoping to get some of your thoughts on this. Wait it out....or fight through it and work out?

Take Care,

Can't really grow if your body is unable to fight illness. 100% of your system should be given to healing. Sleep, rest, HYDRATE, and eat well.

When it comes to something like a cold, I always work it out. It helps to get the body kicked into high gear to fight it off. That being said however, it can also drain you, when you need your reserves to fight it off, like with the flu...so it really depends on how your body feels...

I'm just crazy stubborn though....you'd probably be better off waiting it out and letting your body spend all of the energy it has on healing itself smile.gif

I DO IT, ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE.

EVERYONES DIFFERENT BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT WHETHER TRAINING OR SITTING AT HOME IN THE BED, I STILL TAKE ABOUT THE SAME NUMBER OF DAYS TO GET OVER IT.

ABOUT THE ONLY TIME I WOULD TAKE TIME OFF BECAUSE OF BEING SICK OR HAVING A VIRUS IS DURING THE DAY(s) THAT YOU MAY BE VOMITING OR SHITTING HEAVILY.

OTHER THAN THAT, I JUST TRY AND PUSH THROUGH A WORKOUT.

weight training properly is so demanding on the body that i found over the years it is better to take the time off when sick. i have found for me the best thing is to do cardio to help sweat the garbage out of my system. i have been doing a short form of Tai Chi for 16 years now, so when i am sick i just do cardio; stretch and Tai Chi. i find i recouperate faster if i skip the resistance training while some bug has me by the butt.

If I have the flu its shitty for me- I couldnt train if I wanted to. But when getting over it make sure you are well enough to get back in the gym, as training is a stress on the immune system as well and can cause your body to go backwards and relapse into full blown sickness again- which will be even more time away from the gym.

I have always worked out when sick but if I can't get out of bed then thats a different story. I agree that it all depends on the person.

Ive trained wile being sick every single time...In my mind if i miss it feelslike the end of the world but ive read that you shouldnt train wile being sick with the flu...reasons are...well forgot...But if you think about it wile being sick the body resistence is down so it would need every bit of engery to heal itsself so by working out it would take away from the healing process... ...In other words if you train sick it would take you longer to heal ...dw

I was under the same delima as you. I had pneumonia and put in the hospital for 3 days. When I got out I couldn't work out at all. I'm just now getting to the point where I feel I can. Its been probably close to being a few days shy of 2 weeks. Apparently a 105.8 fever is bad.

My question is do you guys stay on your stuff while sick? I didn't take anything except what the doc's gave me so I could recover.

i'm an old fart, been working out forever though, but i'm not too experienced with "supplements". for me, i stay "on" unless i am very sick. if i were as sick as you have been resently i believe i would have done the same as you and just done the drugs the doc gave me. i must say it comes to mind that since i started with hrt doses of hormones i can't remember being really sick with a bad flu or such, just colds and pain in the ass stuff like that.

i'd leave the gym alone for about a week mate... just get urself back on track... if you cant help yourself then just do a very abbreviated and relatively routine with the basic compounds, like every second day, to keep yourself from doing your head in...

if this were me i wouldnt juice anything if i was that sick...im no doctor so me given advice concerning that level of sickness would be very destructive...I was under then impresstion that you was sick with something like a simple cold ..And something of that level with my experiance i juice every single time but pneumonia is a diff story...And the sad part about your answer is that really there is no standard whether taking juice wile being that sick would cripple you from getting better...My main question would be ..........would testerone take away the effects of the drugs that your doctor has given you to take...?More or less would steroids invade the drugs from working to fight off the pneumonia.?As i said this is a question i wouldnt think you could go to some text book and get an answer and if there is i would like to be enlighten myself.......dw

I NEVER STOPPED OR CEASED USE OF AAS DURING A CYCLE UNLESS I WAS UNDER GOING A PREPLANNED SURGICAL PRODECURE, THIS OF COURSE IS TO NOT FUCK WITH ANGIOTENSIN AND CLOTTING ETC.

MOST OF THE TIME AAS WILL NOT BE AN ISSUE, IN SOME SEVER CASES IT MAY AFFECT THE IMMUNE SYSTEM TO A DEGREE THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE CESSATION OF USE, BUT I NEVER EXPERIENCED IT PERSONALLY.

I would definitely say give it a break if you truly have the flu. If its just a regular old cold keep pushing. I always feel better when Im working out. May be the endorphins. If you truly have the flu then you don't feel like getting out of the bed little alone working out.

As far as taking supplements while sick, yes you should continue. If you stop taking while you are sick then as you begin to heal your test level is going to bottom out causing you to feel like shit and probably make ur immune system weak which in turn could cause you to be sicker longer. I agree if you have some type of major surgery that is going to take a prolonged healing time then yes stop taking them, but I would probably tell my doctor/surgeon that I was taking them. HGH is a different story I would for sure keep taking it during the healing process.

One thing I would like to say is, if you work out at home when you're sick that's one thing. But PLEASE stay out of the gym if you're sick. I swear, it seems like I get disease of the week and I hate it when somebody at the gym says "man I feel like shit, I don't know why I even came in", because I always wind up sick...I must have a half assed immune system. angry.gif
