how do you all incorporate deadlifts and squats into your routines? for example lately i've been doing deadlifts after squats on my leg day but find that after a whole load of heavy squating i can't really deadlift jack shit...
but on the other hand i realise that my spinal erectors take forever to recover and so am hesitant to throw in a big deadlift session at a different stage during the week... plus on top of that my lower back cops a beating on back day doing bent over rows, tbar rows etc so i'm hesitant to throw in deadlifts on back day aswell...
any suggestions on how to split up deadlifts and squats in such a way as to not overtrain my lower back? or should i just soldier on and do them on the same day?
many thanks in advance

I have had them split for years and I try to keep as many days for recovery between the 2- I have done deads with back or hamstrings depending on how I have my bodyparts scheduled for training.

I do deads with back. I always give 72 hours between deads and squats.

I feel that regardless of what your workout is...if the deadlifts are being done properly, there is no use for squatting.

Squats and Deads are the two best overall body exercises out there. have done yrs of both myself.
they say 100 hrs for spinae erectors to fully heal. I used to do deads at the start of my back workout & then work the rest of the back accordingly to my energy levels and needs at the time.
then over the yrs I also used to do deads every other back workout and on the day I didnt do deads I would do alot of heavy bent rows. but on days I did deads I skipped the bent rows and did something easier on the back that day like seated cable rows or some type of supported row like hammer strength or machine work. worked out well for me.
only early on did I do deads right after squats & that was only when I did 3-5 sets of each. once I was doing 8-10 sets of squats or deads I always broke them apart.
4-5 days between deads and squats always worked nice for me cuz even if you're over being sore the total recovery on the body still has to take place & its nice to be fully charged again going into squats or deads IMO . at least once I got over 35 LOL
