Who Is Jesus Christ?

Many people believe in Jesus Christ, yet do not really know WHO He is or from where He came! They look at this supposedly harsh God of the Old Testament and compare Him with this loving Person of the New Testament. Let us consider the Bible only to come to understanding about Jesus.

Genesis 1: 1 says, “In the beginning GOD created the heaven and the earth.” In the Hebrew language, in this case, God is a uni-plural word. The number of Persons being discussed must be determined by the pronouns in the context. Verse 26 tells us: “And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let THEM have dominion …” This one verse uses a plural pronoun four times, thus proving there was more than One Person that we acknowledge as God to be talking with each other. But who were They?

John 1:1-3 states: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word was God. The same [Word] was in the beginning WITH God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”

These scriptures PROVE that the Word was in the beginning WITH God and WAS God also!!! John 1:14 states the Word became flesh and lived among humanity, whom He had created. We know Him as Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:18-23).

Jesus revealed that God the Father has never been seen by humans. John 1:18 states: “No man has seen God [the Father] at ANY time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom [close personal relationship] of the Father, He has declared Him.”

Notice what was stated to ancient Israel as God delivered the Ten Commandments! Remember, no one had seen the Father God at any time. Yet, this God that thundered the Ten Commandments let Moses see His back. Exodus 20:1-3 – “And God spoke [the Word in John 1 in the Greek language means ‘the spokesman’] all these words, saying, I am the Lord your God, WHICH HAVE BROUGHT YOU OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, … You shall have no other gods before me.”

Which God led Israel out of Egyptian bondage – the Father or the Word who became flesh and died for our sins? I Corinthians 10:1-4 – “Moreover, brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the [Red] sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock WAS Christ.”

God the Father put all things under Jesus’ feet. He gave Jesus permission to CREATE the universe, which includes mankind!!! Ephesians 3:9 – “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which FROM THE BEGINNING of the world has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:”

The word mystery means “secret plan!” God has a plan, through Jesus Christ, that has been revealed to the few at this time. It will be revealed to the world at Christ’s second coming.

Jesus came to die for OUR sins, not His! He requested something special from the Father, because He remained faithful!!! Note His request: John 17:5 – “And now O Father, glorify you Me with Your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world was.” Jesus desired the same glorified spirit composed body that He had with the Father, even before the world was created! Our hope is to receive a NEW body also!!!

What is Jesus to us other than our Savior? Colossians 1:12-18 – “Giving thanks unto the Father, which has made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who has delivered us from the power of darkness [Satan’s system], and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL THINGS WERE CREATED BY HIM, AND FOR HIM: And He is BEFORE all things, and BY Him all things consist. And He IS THE HEAD OF THE BODY. THE CHURCH: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead: that in ALL things He might have the preeminence.”

Jesus CREATED everything that exists, by the Father’s permission. He is the HEAD of the church. He appoints human leadership, but He retains the ultimate Headship!!! Ephesians 4:11-15 – “And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; FOR the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we ALL COME IN THE UNITY OF THE FAITH, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: that we henceforth be NO more children, TOSSED TO AND FRO, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight [tricks] of men, and cunning craftiness [cleverness], whereby they lie in wait TO DECEIVE: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him [Jesus] in all things; which is the HEAD, even Christ:”

Do we really believe that Jesus’ words are true? He is only the Son of God forgiving us of our sins! Without Him, we have NO salvation! The real Jesus has “all power in heaven and in earth.” If we claim to be a saint of God and have God’s Spirit living in us, why would we not want to believe and OBEY all of His instructions? He gave His instructions through His servants who wrote them down under His inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
