Just curious as to what you think makes a good BB Board? What makes people come and stay? I'd like to hear a few ideas as to what you think, then I'll give you my idea of one. Hopefully this will get interesting?
What makes a good board and what makes them stay has unfortunately become two seperate things- good board is vets and plenty of quality info and discussions- a good atmosphere with comraderie.
What drives board activity these days is drama and sources- thats shitty but true- I would love to see that trend reversed big time. I think its also time to start listing shit sites and keep them and their owners off the quality boards...if you support scammers and allow shit to be recycled on your forum then the quality boards have no need for banner trades and such with you.

Quality Members, Dedicated staff, Friendly user board, Good Content, Money to keep it going etc...It seems harder and harder to make and continue a good board these days..For those that own sites, my hat is off to you..I tried and failed and it just seemed really hard to keep it going...
Unfortunately, smaller/newer boards have a hard time growing the member base and keeping them active...AJ is correct....It seems that you need a good amount of drama or open sources left and right to get a huge amount of traffic.....What I like about this site is the consistent traffic of long time vets...If you look over our member base, you will see admins, mods and vets of many other good quality boards...Those type of sites are what I prefer..

Now I'm pretty sure everyone knows it's legal (have to talk to a Lawyer though) that having overseas Sources is acceptable as long as it's legal to sell in their own country (No Domestic Sources). So you can pick which REAL SOURCE can advertise.
Now with all boards comes Drama so that's everywhere.
Now how to get members, I figured this out quick. Facebook and twitter accounts, get both. There are people out there that advertise for specific clicks, instead of just anyone and they are damn good at it. So yeah you'll get a shit load of noobs that want to get fit, but you'll also get BBers who never seen a forum. There's alot of ways to do it, but the staff have to post. Too many Mods and zero posts won't keep people coming at first. So what yeah think? Good or Bad idea?

I have to agree as well Drama and Sources! If you want a Vet board with noobs ect.. Then you do need sources IMHO. Just Vets then you won't have a ton of people cause alot don't see eye to eye with each other or don't like someone on that particular Vet Board. So they won't come (making the Board Dead). Look what happened back in the day with LOI? Don't know if it's rockin again, but the same thing happened. Here's a Typical Lay Out of a Board http://olympianbodybuilding.com (Don't Sign up because I'd have to delete you, too many changes coming over a long period of time), do you think if someone stopped at this site they'd join and stay as it is now except with a wack load more of articles? I don't! What it needs I think is a direction, for example BEGINNER - Advanced focusing on HEAVY WEIGHT 5x5 (I'll change it and show you what I mean in a couple days).

Sorry not big on facebook or twitter..I have seen other boards with the facebook type of deal links that flopped...Also, once or if you bring on int sources, then you will have various people linked with faces and real info..Not very smart IMO..

There are good dom sources around...Long time standing vets...I know a few ...But besides having trusting sources its very important to have a group of people that are on the same page ....and will stick by the rules ...This is what makes a good board...Plus,all the copy and paste workouts ...I think the group should write more about self experiance..This is ture life lifting...To much copy workouts is like flase info...What makes a good board......Real life lifting in the raw.....none of that rat bait muscle and fitness crap....and of course like i said above some good honorable sources....Because lets be real...steroids do play a big part in our sport....Nothing like good old steroid candy....dw
rite on dw!!!!

HONESTY and INTEGRITY at the end of the day it should be about telling the truth even if it makes you look bad. I respect that more than some sugar coated look good shit.

It is important to have quality members and posts...but just as important to get loose and have some fun. we don't have to be so damn serious all the time.
Last item is security. It's up to the owners / staff / vip's and vets to collectively police the community of RATS, INFO COLLECTORS AND SCAM TURDS.

I think a good board starts with the board OWNER. Then the staff to build a member base. Sad to see how many owners have let their boards go to shit. recruiting rejects and open sourcing leads to drama every time.

I agree with this as well- boards should be fun too-its just when a board becomes nothing but off topic bullshit and porn posts it seems to me its run far off course from its original intended purpose and no longer truly effective.
As DW said - posts that are ORIGINAL information not the regurtitated mantra from across the community recylcled again and again to be ignored finally and relegated to some pinned archived post.
Its funny to see what happens to original material on the kiddie boards- its not about gear-its not worth reading-its longer than 4 sentences- too much work to sit and read it.

Not to mention OWNERSHIP. Having the right type of owner is key! The places I visit now are owned by trusted STAND up guys in the community. Not fly by night fucktards who let anybody source or say whatever they feel.
Also the board honor is a BIG thing as well, its some thing i would tell you guys I have never told anyone because the honor and integrity and trust we havwe for each other is great.
