This is but one of the many studies i've seen, ejection fraction of the heart among other functions deteriorates with abuse of AAS. Like anything realy, long term abuse your gona pay the consequences.

QUOTE
Doppler echocardiography ultrasound was used to examine blood flow through the heart.

In most of the steroid users, the heart's main pumping chamber, known as the left ventricle, showed evidence of weakness during contraction.

A healthy left ventricle pumps 55% to 70% of the blood that fills the heart. This measurement is known as ejection fraction.

Ten of the 12 steroid users had ejection fractions of less than 55%,

Agreed. Long term abuse of ANYTHING whether it be a substance un-natural to human consumption or even long term abuse of a type of food will affect the body in a negative way. Also - once your muscles get bigger than your natural frame had intended, the heart is working overtime to pump that blood wink.gif

I know two people that have ended up in the hospital due to this. It really throws the blood pressure out of whack.

Thank you Shine!! I don't think alot of guys take this into account cuz when we are young we feel immortal/unbreakable and the thinking usually is "Naw that won't happen to me"!!

Back in my mid twenties I had gyno surgery and when you get gyno surgery the surgeon has to do some liposuction to contour the chest after taking all that gristley fat/glands out of your chest to make it look natural, well the body treats liposuction ilike a second degree burn (tons of water retention, puffiness), then compounded at the time I had been using quite a bit of androgens!!!

Well my blood pressure got so bad even standing up my head felt like it was going to blow up, I had elephant ankles, I was red in color, even drinking water I had to take breaths in between drinks. All in all I ended up with an enlarged heart and had minor left ventricle hypertropy after an ekg and some other tests!! It took me six months to finally be.......normal again as I was put on blood pressure meds/anti-anxiety, etc.

I didn't touch any AAS again till I was in my mid thirties and it was only because of TRT, now I'm on year round (200mg of Test a week for three months, then when on cycle 500mg Test for three months, then repeat) cycles are very conservative, plus I get my heart tested twice a year as there is NO WAY I'm going down with a heart attack or stroke!!

Thanks for posting Snachito, I've had a few of theese symptoms as well and it is damn scarry. When your ankles and feet swell, you start geting heavy winded just walking to your car it's time to face reality! Yea i'm in it for the long haul as well theese days. I will run higher milligram cycles but nothing like I did a couple years ago. I do maybe two big cycles a year on top of hrt and that's it. If your going to use high amounts you better darn well be getting kidney, heart , choles test done on a regular basis. And for those that don't use an Anti-E on there high dose test cycles is just dumb, high estrogen levels cause heart problems and even thyroid problems as well, not to mention high estro stimulates the negative effects of cardiac aldosterone.

Any abuse of substances whatsoever is detrimental to the health IMO.

Agreed Shine!!
I am in this group as well and about 5 months after ORD I was getting sicker to the point I couldn't go to work of even walk 100 yards without feeling like I was gonna die.
My girlfriend finally made me go to the doctor because I looked so sick and I could not eat yet alone train.I went to the quick care and they knew something was seriously wrong but were not sure exactly what. They than sent me by ambulance to the biggest hospital in my city/state here in Vegas. They did an EKG and echo and my ejection fraction was below 10 and my heart was more than 3 times the size as normal. When I saw the X-ray of my heart I almost died just by looking at it.It was like someone implanted a football in my chest. My cardiologist said had I not checked myself into the hospital I would have died within a week.
After I was stable enough to transport they flew me by private jet to UCLA to see if I was able to be a candidate for a heart transplant since they dont do transplants in my home state. It was a very scary time for me since I have always been healthy besides being shot with a handgun which always killed me in my femoral artery.
I didn't take anything prior to this for some time as some may know due to the whole ORD thing which didn't help me any as far as stress goes.

So after being evaluated at UCLA they put me on the translplant list.
About a month later they implanted a IACD(implanted automated cardiac defibrillator)
Which is basically a pacemaker that has the a ability to shock you just like the paddles they use to shock people with.
I am sure that my use of over a decade had something to do with it although I am sure they tested me for it but I was off long enough to be clean.
It just scared the shit out of me because I knew I was sick but when I Checked myself in I didn't think that I would spend damn near a month in the hospital in a different state and have all these doctors look at me and basically just tell me there is no cure and I might die soon.
Fortunately I bad an echo about a year after I initially got sick and it was normal size again.JTP was by my side every day when I was in the hospital I'm our hometown.
My ejection fraction is alot better now but I have to take alot of medicine everyday.

My main symptoms were shortness of breath and low energy levels.
So if anyone of you have this problem please DO NOT IGNORE THIS!
It may cost you your life as it almost took mine so please seek treatment ASAP.

i can say about 4 yrs ago i started have atrial fib problems and when my heart was out of rythm i couldn't walk to the kitchen without wanting to die. i had been using (not abusing) aas for 26yrs. my cardiolgist said my heart was enlarged but it was strong and healthy. i believe all the yrs of lifting caused it since it is a muscle. we tried for 6 months to regulate with meds and would not work. ended up going to a specialist and hade some heart surgery and have been cured ever since. the biggest thing is neither of my dr new what caused it or at anytime neither one of them even ask me about steriod use?? and did not mention that to be the cause. honestly i believe it was do to alot of strss. i was 7 months into build a new home and i will sleep under a bridge before i go through that again. lol.
