If you caught the season premiere episode
of the Biggest Loser Tuesday night, then you'll
see why this POST is appropriate.
Although I don't agree with much of what the
show portrays, they do ONE thing that we
all should take advantage of.
And that's what I want to talk about today.
So stick with me here.
I’m going to dive into today's topic. And I'm
going into it from the 3 meter platform, so
it's going to get a little "deep". :-)
If you’ve been attending camp or reading our
newsletter for any length of time, you know I
talk about this….
“Competing with yourself, Not against others”
My challenge to you is to engage in healthy
competition, BUT with yourself.
You are UNIQUE.
From your genetics....
To your daily schedule...
To your food preferences...
To your own personal fitness and lifestyle goals.
The list of unique traits could be a few
paragraphs long….I have no doubts.
Don't get me wrong, some friendly competition
is great. I’m all for friendly competition. It always
brings out the best in all of us.
But check yourself if it starts to dilute your motivation.
Using others physique’s or accomplishments as
“fuel” to empower you to move closer to your
goals is a fantastic way to keep yourself
motivated and taking action.
Competition is an integral part of life.
That’s just the way it is....and I think that's a
good thing.
We all need some external motivators to keep
our internal "motivation engine" humming along.
There are very few of us that generate all of
our motivation from within.
External motivators can be a number of things
like…
~ Pictures of other people out of magazines
~ Photos of a wedding dress
~ Setting a date for a photo shoot
~ Going on a beach vacation
….(bathing suite pressure)
~ Telling everyone about your fitness goals
~ Having a family member or friend hold you
accountable
~ Screensaver (your ideal physique…you could
even do a little editing and photoshop your head
right on your "ideal" body. ;-) )
~ Blood work taken and set to be taken again at
a certain date
~ Before and After Contests…i.e. Body for Life,
Biggest Loser, etc.
You get the idea.
We all get motivated by different things.
The important thing for you to do is find what
works and do it consistently.
Maybe it’s posting sticky notes strategically
around your house.
It could be anything and everything you need it
to be.
Use your imagination. Make a game out of it.
This should be fun and rewarding.
OK, Reality Check!
We all go through ups and downs with our eating
and exercise.
It’s perfectly normal.
If you go a little off the deep end with lunch, who
cares. Chalk it up as one of your twice weekly
cheat meals and get right back to your plan.
Being rigid is good, BUT have a sense of flexibility
and shake it off. There’s no need to dwell on
something that already happened.
As Jay-Z says, just "Brush Your Shoulders Off"
and get your next meal dialed in.
As a female in the US, you have a ton of pressure
put on you every single day regarding societies
“standards” for what you should look like.
Like I mentioned earlier...
It’s about competing with yourself.
So ignore those media sterotypes and find your
own Motivation to excel. Your quest for a healthier,
leaner, sexier you is unique to YOU!
Stay Strong~~!!!
