I voted that I never stretch which is not really true. I do stretch on occasion. I fell somewhere in between, but I have to admit I come closer to not stretching and just hitting it. I know better too. I believe you should stretch before and after and I have no excuse for not doing that since I lift at home. I almost never do if I go to a gym for the simple fact it makes me mad for a guy to hog up the squat rack while doing ten minutes of stretching only to see him max at 225 for half reps. I also believe if you are older (me) it is even more important.

IMO stretching is something that the bros are starting to find out is NOT essential to the equation.
Here is my theory:
I train 5 days per week, as a normal schedule, more when I cycle but always careful not overtrain (I am always on top for overtraining sides). Since I train constantly, my muscles, tendons....are always on the go and need VERY little to be put through work outs.
If you go longer periods without training and or if yuo train 1-2 per week, then I believe stretching should be part of the regime.
Does anybody here agree with me?

I believe in stretching but I was also taught that you never stretch a cold muscle. I do a warmup for the area I plan to work and do stretching after my 2 warmup sets. I had tendonitus before and try to avoid it like the plague and stretching helps me.

I never stretch before I workout. Now after I work out I do a little helps my muscle get bigger.

I always stretch before heavy training, after my warm up sets. When I first enter the gym, I walk on the treadmill for 3 to 5 minutes, then I do two light warm up sets of the particular exercise I happen to be starting with that day, THEN I stretch.
In particular, I find that getting a good warm up and hamstring/lower back stretch really helps before performing deep, heavy squats.
"PowerWalking" on the treadmill, with plenty of upper body movement, helps get the blood flowing to the extremities prior to my training session. When you are sitting and not moving around for an extended period (for instance if you work at a desk all day) blood has a tendency to accumulate around the center of the body...the gut and the organs. Doing a good light warm up doesn't exhaust the body and it helps get the blood flowing to the working muscles before you blast them.

Whether we all realize or not we all stretch as we perform any exercise through its range of motion. These stretching are active, passive & static ...... Just FYI.......

I stretch everyday before I lift. Had some injuries in the past and stretching pre-workout makes a big difference to me.

I stretch before warmups and in between sets, every few sets.
Just quick ten second stretches...I like to imagine more blood getting to the muscle.
