it's hard enough to stab yourself let alone, pull the plunger out to see if there is blood, i am wondering if you can actually die if you hit a vein and proceduce to inject the stuff....another thing is my sister injects me which is awesome cuz she is a trained in doing it, but for some reason sometimes my blood seems to fly out of me like crazy.....it stops in a short amount of time but i mean it's pretty crazy looks like the blood squirts out a foot like it's running water...does anyone know why this does this...it's not the first time it has happened and i am not dead yet but i am def. curious if anyone else has the same prob....

sounds like the syringe passed thru a vein. probably pulling the syringe out too slow.. pull that sumbitch out fast!

Agree sounds like hit a vein. I was told along time ago that if you inject into a vein it can cause to infection but nothing deadly. Don't know if true just what i was told, we need a doc on here to help this topic!!

well my sister is a nurse, and she said that you can't die, only if you inject an air bubble in the vein, but she still doesn't know why blood would flow out like that, could it be the fact that you hit in the same spot that you once did before and it's the scar tissue that ya hit???

your hitting a vein, that is why you are supposed to aspirate. when you pull out the syringe press a alcohol dipped cotton ball or alcohol swab on the site and apply pressure should stop shortly. usually bleed more in glutes than any other place (at least for me). most likely you are hitting a surface vein and not one deep where the needle is, so it is unlikely that you are injecting directly into a vein. and it takes a full 3 cc of air directly into a vein to have any chance of all of causing a fatality.

Based on studies done, it takes about 30 cc's of air injected directly into a vein to suffer an air embolus, and thats when injected DIRECTLY into a vein, not injected IM. If there was enough pressure for it to squirt out like you mentioned then you probably hit a small artery somewhere. ITs really not a big deal at all unless you let it bleed for hours and hours. IT looks like you are loosing more blood then your really are. A tablespoon of blood smeared on something looks like a lot but really isnt. Like I said though, dont worry about it.

I don't know about death, but hitting a vein isn't any fun. I always stick myself, and do it really slow. I Let go of the pin, pull the plunger back, and if it's all clear- got at it. If I get blood I pull the pin out and re-enter in another spot. I always push the blood out of the pin if I can. I wonder if it's safe to re-inject the blood into the body. Whats funny is sometimes I don't bleed at all and the hole closes up like it never happened. I like those sticks. Anyhow- just be sure to pull the plunger back and check for blood!

Oh yea. Sometimes the blood rushes out like water thru a hose...only on a smaller level.
An alcohol pad on the site applied with pressure will usually stop the bleeding in a matter of minutes. It's cool , just a small artery as stated above: but shocking just the same. No worries though.

Tell your sister she needs to go back to her nursing manual and read up on z-tracking. Pull skin to side before injection and then when bring needle back out realease skin to its normal resting position and there should be hardly any blood and no leaking of hormone.

First of , by an A & P book. The glut have no major arteries that you would hit going in only 1 1/4 inches. Also, always remember upper outer when shooting the ass; if you go low chances are you could hit the ciatic nerve and you will be fucked for a bit and scared as hell the next time you need to pin up.
